Karimunjawa is a district in Jepara, Central Java, which is an archipelago in the middle of the Java Sea. Located about 83 KM north of the city of Jepara, Karimun Islands consists of 27 islands, but only 5 inhabited islands. The main tourist potential of Karimunjawa is the beauty of the sea. Because the tourism potential of the marine park, the islands designated as one of the Indonesian national park in 2001.
According to local stories, the origins of the name of Karimunjawa is the story of Amir Sheikh Hasan, the son of Sunan Muria naughty and a pupil Sunan Kudus. He was banished to the island when viewed from a distance called kerimun-kerimun in Javanese or vague meaning in Indonesian. Over time, the islands fondly called as Karimun Islands.
Sights that have been designated as a national marine park of Indonesia have more than 90 types of coral reefs, and more than 240 species of fish. In some islands, you can see the mangroves and coastal forests. In addition you can also find several types of animals on land, such as deer, monkeys, various species of birds, turtles, and others.
